Instagram has been a life changer for me in helping me to discover new things and connect with awesome people. In fact Instagram is how I first found out about the Mini Doughnut Factory. It was impossible to ignore the irresistible photos of these mini confections all over social media. The photos paired with the raving reviews on Yelp made the Mini Doughnut Factory a high priority on my foodie wish list.
When my friend and fellow blogger Jenn suggested the Mini Doughnut Factory as our meeting location I was excited to finally give the doughnuts a try for myself. Ironically Jenn and I became acquainted through Instagram as well. With one glance at her Instagram feed you will see why we connected, she too is a foodie like me and it was fate that we live in the same city.
When we arrived we were immediately greeted by the staff welcoming us into the store even though they were decorating doughnuts at the time. Patrick, one of the owners, met us at the cash register to take our order. He was friendly and patient as I perused the menu trying to decide what to order. I wanted to try several of the doughnuts while still remaining within an affordable price range so I selected the 6-pack which is priced under $5. Since I hadn’t yet had breakfast, this was a perfect amount for a morning snack.
I had a few I just had to try but I allowed Patrick to select 2 wildcard options for me. My 6 pack included: The Samoa, The Campfire, The Sweet Pig, Cookies & Crème, Cotton Candy & Fruity Pebbles
The samoa, s’mores, cookies and cream, cotton candy, fruity pebbles and sweet pig. Even though it was the one I was the most skeptical of, my fave was the sweet pig. The combination of the sweet maple on the cake doughnut with the salty bacon was absolutely delish! My other faves were the samoa and the s’mores doughnuts.
All of the doughnuts were created on a base of a plain cake doughnut. The doughnuts are miniature and about the size of a half dollar. All of my choices were from the Favorite Doughnut Selections but you can feel free to create your own.
The Mini Doughnut Factory is an experience; each doughnut is made fresh to order so you can actually watch your doughnuts being made especially for you. Since doughnuts are not pre-made or batch processed, you will have to be patient if you come during a busy time in the day. Fortunately for us we visited during the week and so the line was not very long, so we did not have too long to wait to dig into our yummy treats.
These mini doughnuts are perfect for any situation. I cannot wait to bring my niece back to enjoy a few treats with me, she will love being able to create her own mini doughnut treats. I am so glad that Jenn suggested The Mini Doughnut Factory as our meeting location, wish list item check. I now have her to blame for my newest addiction and the additional pounds I am sure to gain from overdosing on mini doughnuts because this will definitely be my last visit to this awesome shop.
In fact I am already planning my next trip so that I can try the blueberry and chocolate cake doughnuts which are only served on the weekends.

What would you place atop your mini doughnut?
Update 2 /21:
Just like I said, I went back this past weekend so that I could try the chocolate and blueberry doughnuts which are only sold on the weekends. I had just left brunch at another restaurant but my friend and I were still feenin’ for something sweet so we made a pit stop on the way home. The place was packed as expected, but don’t be discouraged the line moved quickly. My friend got a box of 16 for her and her son. I just got a 6 pack which was enough for me to have as an afternoon snack. This time I chose 2 blueberry (one with lemon glaze and one with regular), 1 cookies and cream, 1 salted caramel which was on the chocolate doughnut, 1 peanut butter cup which is on the chocolate doughnut on the weekends and who can resist the sweet pig. We took our doughnuts to go this time but they barely made it home with me.
They were all very good but I am not usually a salted caramel fan but I am so glad I tried that special because it was amazing. Of course the sweet pig wins my heart every time because I never thought I would love a doughnut with bacon and I totally do. But truthfully they were all very good. If it hadn’t been Sunday when I visited, I probably would have gone back the next day for more. But since the specialty flavors are not available during the week, I guess I will have to wait until next weekend.
So I am admittedly becoming a regular and I could not resist stopping in this weekend to get the strawberry shortcake mini doughnut featured this weekend. I love fresh strawberries and they are in season right now so they are fresh and ripe. This feature is a vanilla doughnut, with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. It was good, not super sweet like some of my other favorites but a great choice. I ordered two but kinda wish I had ordered more after getting home and devouring them in just a few seconds.
I also got some of my usual faves like the sweet pig and the chocolate peanut butter doughnut but I also tried the French toast for the first time. After this taste, it is now on my list of faves too. It’s a classic cinnamon sugar doughnut but it’s the simplicity that makes it so great.
The secret is out so this place was packed. The service is great as always. Even though it is busy, the staff was courteous, friendly and customer focused. It is so amazing to watch the owner Patrick personally greet and interact with the guests. He is a true owner operator who gets involved in every aspect of the operation including cleaning. I respect that he did not delegate that job to a staff member but when he saw the need, he just reacted.
If you haven’t made it in yet, you’re definitely missing out.
