Being a Florida native, I am not unfamiliar with Tropical Storm and Hurricane warnings. These storms love to brew in the waters of the ocean and often threaten to come visit us here on land. The first storm to threaten this season was Tropical Storm Hermine which later turned into a Hurricane. In preparation for the impending storm, many employers including mine gave us the day off as a safety precaution.
We braced ourselves for the storm but fortunately it did not affect us very much. We had some rain and wind but in my neck of the woods that was it. As a result I was able to use to the day off to whittle away at my never ending to do list. I completed some house work, a few blog posts and relaxed a bit.
While scrolling through my Twitter feed, I noticed my fellow foodie and blogger Carlos posted about Ox + Fields Hurricane Party. Since everyone was safe, Ox + Fields decided to invite those of us who had the day off to come in and enjoy some yummy food specials. I had not yet tried the food at Ox + Fields but it was on my foodie hit list, so this was a perfect opportunity to give it a try.
The restaurant was featuring their tacos for $2 and the bao buns for $1 each. Yes you read that right, this frugal foodie was in heaven when I saw these prices.
I ordered 3 Steam Buns and 2 Tacos all for myself.
Of the items I tried, the shrimp bao bun was my favorite.
Fortunately we will not have Hurricane Parties every week but you can still enjoy discounts on these items at Ox + Fields during happy hour and Tacos Tuesdays.
This frugal foodie was pleased to be able to try almost all of the featured items for less than $10 with tip. My friends are always amazed at how I can eat out so often even despite my limited budget but its because I take advantage of specials like this.
I am not usually happy about hurricanes, but Hurricane Hermine led me to Ox + Fields. After talking with Chef Viet Vo about his background and culinary perspective, I am interested in returning for their Sunday Brunch and trying some of their signature dinner entrees.
Have you ever attended a Hurricane Party? If so what did you guys do to celebrate the passing of the storm?
