As you may remember I celebrated my birthday this year with a #monthofme. For the month, I created a birthday bucket list with several items I would like to accomplish with my friends in celebration of another year of life.
Included on that list was traveling to Chicago to attend a photography workshop with one of my favorite photographers, Audrey Woulard. I fell in love with her work almost a decade ago and I was determined to finally attend one of her workshops this year. I am so glad that I was able to make it because I learned so much. She is a master at her craft and an amazing business woman. She is also a Taurus which is probably why I totally loved her personality as much as I love her work.
While in town I was able to meet up with two of my friends who were in town as well. I met both of these ladies through my membership in Nomandness Travel Tribe. Although we do not see each other often, we talk regularly and have become close friends so it was great to be able to catch up with them to hang out.
At my friend Toni’s suggestion, we decided to meet for happy hour at Cantina Laredo. Cantina Laredo is a modern Mexican Restaurant with locations nationwide. Despite having one in my city, due to the proximity of the restaurant, I have not been in the restaurant in over a year so I was glad to get a chance to return.
Chicago was surprisingly cold for it to be mid-May so we chose to have a seat upstairs by the fireplace. This Florida girl was a little chilly and this gave me a chance to warm my buns a little while stuffing my face and catching up with my girls.
Of course we could not start happy hour at Cantina Laredo without margaritas. Margaritas are available on the rocks or frozen but since we were a bit chilly already, we chose to have ours on the rocks.
Complimentary at Cantina Laredo are chips and salsa but we also ordered the Top Shelf Guacamole. The guacamole is usually prepared tableside but for us it was fireside.
I must admit I was not impressed with the guacamole. In fact we had to doctor it up with some citrus and salt and I still wasn’t very satisfied with the result. I have had some awesome guacamole in my life and this just did not qualify.
We ordered several appetizers to share including the Cangrejo Y Mango Tostadas (Crab and Mango Tostadas), Empanadas De Chorizo Y Camarones (Chorizo and Shrimp Empanadas), Flatbread De Camarones Chipolte (Shrimp and Goat Cheese Flatbread) and Ceviche.
My favorite was definitely the Shrimp & Goat Cheese Flatbread.
And since it was my Month of Me, our server treated me to a complimentary brownie to celebrate.
During happy hour at Cantina Laredo, the Platillos are half off the menu price. Our selections averaged $6 each. The guacamole and ceviche were not included in the happy hour prices and we paid full price for those items.
I do not know the total of the bill because the ladies treated me as birthday gift. I do not think we broke the bank though which is why I love happy hour so much.
It was amazing enjoying a meal and drinks during happy hour at Cantina Laredo with my girls. I truly appreciate them taking the time to spend with me and celebrate my entrée into another year of life.
Where is your favorite place to grab a margarita? And guacamole?
