I sometimes get a little down about being single and having to go out by myself quite often. Well fortunately on this day my friend’s boyfriend was busy and she thought of me. The timing could not have been more perfect. I was leaving work and checked my phone for missed calls and messages when I saw a text from her asking what I was doing that night. All I could think about was my desire to eat since I had not eaten breakfast or lunch and I was starving. It had been an 11 hour day already so I knew I would not be cooking when I got home. Emphatically I responded nothing, what did you have in mind. Now you know this girl is my friend because she suggested …. yep you know it, happy hour.
We started at another restaurant where we had a few drinks but we were not quite satisfied so we continued our walk down South Howard ending up at Ava. We were cutting it super close but we made it just in time to put in our food order before the happy hour cutoff. I didn’t even know Ava had a happy hour but the menu is quite varied and includes both food and drank.
It was a beautiful day so we chose to sit outside (plus it didn’t help that the bar area was already filled to capacity).
My friend had been to Ava previously so I let her take the lead and order for us. She selected the funghi pizza, house salad and whipped ricotta with baguette.
Each of these items were $5 each which was perfectly priced (especially since this was our second happy hour of the day). We ate every last bite and we were stuffed. Fortunately the car was a few blocks away so we were able to walk off a few if the yummy calories we just ingested.
But clearly that wasn’t enough for me because a different friend and I ended up going back to Ava the very next day. The weather was not so nice and it was raining, so we decided to sit inside instead during this visit.
My friend is a vegetarian so I wanted to select a place that could accommodate us both. The pizza options were a perfect balance offering vegetarian and meat options. I ordered the spicy sausage and ricotta pizza and she had the margherita; again we both left full, satisfied and with pennies still left in our pockets.
Although I highlighted the pizzas there are many other options available during happy hour at Ava. I am excited to return again soon to try more of the menu.
I had a long tiring week and my girls time at Ava really revived me. I am so glad that these ladies reached out to hang out. I am also thrilled that as a result I have discovered another awesome #happyhourhotspot.
